The South Carolina Soybean Board (SCSB) is a group of 12 soybean producers from South Carolina who are responsible for administering the soybean checkoff in the state. Elected by producers in each district, SCSB directors serve a three-year term to comply with the Soybean Marketing Act and Order.
The volunteer directors decide how to invest the funds of the soybean checkoff. The checkoff is collected when a soybean producer sells his or her soybeans at the state level, at a rate of one-half of 1 percent of the bushel price. These funds are used for research, promotion and education interests as they pertain to soybeans and the soybean industry. Half of the soybean checkoff funds are kept in state, and half are sent to the United Soybean Board (USB) at the national level. To learn more about USB and the soybean checkoff, please visit their Web site at www.unitedsoybean.org.
The South Carolina Corn and Soybean Association (SCCSA) is a membership organization that is involved in policy-making and lobbying. SCCSA is an affiliate of the American Soybean Association (ASA) and National Corn Growers Association (NCGA). No checkoff funds can be used for political purposes. For more information about ASA, visit its Web site at www.soygrowers.com. For more information about NCGA, please visit its Web site at www.ncga.com.
